The Windows XP Gaming Experience

Even though official support for Windows XP ended back in 2014, it’s quite surprising to read that a lot of people still haven’t upgraded. For the general user this isn’t that problematic providing you’re up to date with all the latest updates and service packs, and you have a third party anti virus software installed.

But what about gaming? Windows XP only supports up to DirectX9 and therefore most modern titles won’t even start. If you’re into older games though then chances are you’re in luck and today we’ll be taking a look at a few games that do run on XP, as well as comparing the performance to that of Windows’ newest operating system, Windows 10.

So let’s see what you can expect from this decade and a half old OS.

System Specs:
Intel Core i5 650 @ 3.2GHz CPU
Intel DQ57TM Motherboard
GTX 750 Ti
8GB DDR3 Ram
Corsair 500W PSU
Windows XP 64 Bit Service Pack 2

Games Tested:
Far Cry 3
Grand Theft Auto IV
Fallout 3

Thanks for watching 🙂

  2. Hi, everyone!
Yes, it's true, even if it's not an official release, after years of development, we finally have a final, stable release!
In order to install the patch, just download the rar, extract it and install the "setup.exe".

    Stay tuned for further updates.
p.s official release stuck at DX 9? Well, too bad, Microsoft.

    Direct x 10 download

To check which version of DirectX you currently have installed in Windows, simply open a Run dialog (Win+R) and type in dxdiag.

  3. Next im going to build an overkill gaming PC for windows XP with an GTX960 and i5 4790 CPU :3 pricepoint for the whole setup: 500€ well, the only thing i dont have to buy is a CRT Monitor 😀

  4. Windows XP 32-bit and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition 64-bit CS:GO, CS:S PLAY What???
    ( GTX 980, 970, 960 – GTX 780TI, 750TI ) RAM 8GB

  5. My 486 used to be my favorite machine till XP came around. Main reason why I loved XP so much was I could still emulate my DOS games but I could also play most of my 95/98 games on it as well despite them usually needing some form of tweaking.

I been debating whether to build my dream XP machine lately, mainly due to modern systems having difficulty or flat out refusing to run my library of older games that arent available digitally on sites like GOG etc.

XP was the first and only system though I ended up obtaining so many trojans on it was pretty frightening. On the otherhand it basically forced me to learn how to get rid of them vs taking it to the local shop as that was pretty costly.

  6. hey why are you using my pc! (i have a old pc that has a i5-650 and used to have a gtx750ti but it is now in my new pc until i get a better gpu and i had 9gb of ram idk the motherboard but a 220w psu)

  7. Why Windows XP is the best OS ever:
    – It has a epic startup and shutdown sound.
    – The bliss image was the famous desktop background.
    – 3D Pinball Space Cadet was a fun game.
    – Microsoft Sam was the best speech engine.
