Samsung Notebook 9 Pro (2017) Review

Lisa Gade reviews the redesigned Samsung Notebook 9 Pro, now available in 13.3 and 15 inch sizes. These are 2-in-1 convertible Windows 10 laptops that compete directly with the HP Spectre x360 and Lenovo Yoga 720. We look at the 15” model that sells for $1,299. It has an aluminum casing, color accurate 1920 x 1080 display supporting touch and the included S Pen (Wacom EMR), Intel Core i7-7500U 7th gen Kaby Lake CPU, AMD Radeon 540 2GB GDDR5 dedicated graphics, 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 256GB SSD.

The 17mm thick laptop has a backlit keyboard, Windows Hello camera, outdoor brightness mode, a USB-C port, 2 USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, 3.5mm audio and a microSD card slot. It weighs 3.79 lb. /1.7kg, making it one of the lighter 15” convertibles on the market. The excellent pen makes it enticing to artists and avid note takers.

Pens in this video: The pencil style digital pen is the $45 Staedtler Noris. Wacom Bamboo Smart (the one with clip on the cap) and and an old Samsung Slate 7 pen. And of course the included S Pen that slows in the silo.

  1. Notebook 9 pro vs l390 yoga, one end u got 8gb with graphics card another u got i5 8gen quad core with 2 upgradable ram slots???

  2. HOT TIP….the M.2 interface is in fact PCIE. I am running a 1TB 970 Evo plus NVMe ssd and it is recognized as PCIE in BIOS and Crystalmark results of 3500+ reads and writes and 350000+ IOPS are definitely PCIE speeds. Don't understand why Samsung doesn't make this known!

  3. Hi Lisa, in the 2019 model they changed the pen to an active pen,
can you tell if the digitizer was changed also, is it a Wacom EMR?

  4. There is already NEW one 13.3" 2019. It goes with new pen, 16 Gigabytes of RAM and 512 Gigabytes o SSD. Please please review it!

  5. Can we attach a blootooth keyboard while we work in the laptop keypad folded back in order to use like a drawing tab .?

  6. I have the 8th gen version of this model and I'm pretty satisfied with the experience. It's smooth with video editing and photoshop work for my art

  7. OMG thank you for this. I am absolutely going to get this or whatever the latest/maxed model is. Was turned on to the spectre, then yoga, but I sketch regularly on a Note 8 and Note Tab A 10.1, as much as id love a little stronger GPU I can like with this because it has WACOM EMS! YESSS!!! runs away from N-Trig and to frys and or Best Buy

  8. wow … Samsung could be the best IT enterprise ever. They build everything, what the hell are they doing if Apple is the most valuable company in the world?

  9. You have me about 95% sold on a Samsung product thanks to your great and thorough reviews of many laptops… I love that they are focused on digital art and programs like Photoshop. I was wondering if you had a review for the Acer Switch 7 in the works?

  10. Hi Lisa since you have compared both samsung note n samsung galaxy book 12 which one would you recommend as a drawing device. I think the real estate of notebook as 15 inch will be better than 12 inches on galaxy book ..but functionally, paticularly in terms of drawing, pen function etc , which will be better ? Kindly suggest

  11. I'm so confused! I don't know if I should get the samsung notebook 9 (great battery life), or the samsung notebook 9 pro (touchscreen AND it can do that 360° thing that is super cool AND can be a tablet or a computer but has worse battery life). i dont do any photo editing, i dont play games like league of legends (i really just play roblox) but i dont just want a downgrade of my current computer (which probably isnt possible). pls help!

  12. Awesome video. I bought my notebook because of this review. You were very helpful. But What's that art app you were using in this video
